Can I build a NORWEH outdoor pavilion kit by myself?
NORWEH kits are designed with the DIY builder in mind, and solo assembly of the LT model is possible for experienced builders — but it’s not recommended for most people, and not safe for the HT model’s larger timber sections.
Why a team of 2–4 makes a significant difference:
- HT model beams — up to 8×12 in cross-section — can weigh 100–250 lbs and must be lifted to height; this genuinely requires at least 3 people for safe placement
- Holding posts plumb while securing base hardware requires a second person
- Setting ridge beams safely requires at least one person on a ladder at each end simultaneously
- Two people finish the project in roughly half the time of a solo builder
What makes solo LT assembly possible:
- LT timber members are smaller and lighter
- Simplified bolt connections don’t require the precision alignment of mortise and tenon
- A sawhorse or adjustable post holder can substitute for a second pair of hands for some steps
Recommended approach:
- Build with 2–3 friends or family members for a safe, efficient, and enjoyable weekend project
- Or hire a local handyman or small crew for the assembly day — NORWEH’s clear documentation makes it easy to brief a contractor
