What tools do I need to assemble a NORWEH outdoor pavilion kit?
One of the key design goals of NORWEH kits is that they can be assembled with tools most homeowners already own. Here’s the complete tool list:
Required tools:
- Power drill / impact driver – with appropriate bit set; used for pre-drilling and driving lag screws and bolts
- Socket wrench set – for tightening all structural bolts and hardware; a ratchet set works well
- 4-foot and 8-foot levels – essential for plumb posts and level beams; do not skip this
- Tape measure (25 ft minimum)
- Circular saw – for cutting tongue-and-groove roof deck boards to length during installation
- Step ladder and extension ladder – you’ll need to work at height for beam and rafter installation
- Speed square – for checking angles during assembly
- Rubber mallet – for seating mortise and tenon joints on the HT model
Helpful but not strictly required:
- String line for checking alignment across multiple posts
- Temporary bracing lumber (2x4s) for holding posts plumb while securing
- Laser level — significantly speeds up post height verification across all four corners
- Work gloves — Douglas Fir splinters are sharp on fresh-cut ends
No chainsaw, crane, or specialized timber frame tools are required. Full tool list is included in the NORWEH assembly manual — download a sample at norweh.com.
